Organised by Barmouth Music/Cerdd y Bermo a self funding, non-profit making community group.
A little about us…
We are a community group, set up in Barmouth on the West coast of Wales, and have now been in existence for over 10 years.
We initially ran short jazz improvisation workshops under the tutelage of local musicians, but now hold 2 & 3 day events with musicians of international standing such as Ian Dixon, Mike Walker, Huw Warren, Pete Churchill & Nikki Iles. These events are fully booked well in advance, so who knows where we go from here.
Having organised a couple of small festivals in the past, we have now opted to regularly put on jazz & blues gigs on the Fourth Friday of every month. These events as well as the workshops are held at the local Dragon Theatre, which has an intimate cabaret room & bar. Musicians featured are both local & from further afield such as Birmingham & Manchester. Ticket reservations are essential, since nights are regularly sold out.
Previously, we have obtained help from Gwynedd Council to buy quality sound equipment, but apart from that, are entirely self funding…surely a sign that we must be doing something right!
We are now also in the fortunate position of being able to offer small grants to help aspiring musicians with the purchase of equipment or the cost of lessons & tuition.
Check out the Gallery as we have a YouTube channel showing a growing number of the musicians that have performed at the Dragon.
John Morris for his photographs and videos that have been uploaded to Flickr and YouTube sites. Also Richard Hockley for his expertise & invaluable help with sound production, & Ian Miller for his setting up & management of our website.
…and of course, our committee members and numerous other volunteers.
